Sandra. She’s my sister and today is her birthday. While Sandra may be my “little” sister, I look up to her more than she’ll ever know. She is humble, smart, kind and pretty. She works extremely hard and is absolutely brilliant. Sandra is in her first year of residency and will be an amazing doctor. I love her so much.
When we were growing up, we were only two years apart and did nearly everything together. At that time, it was hard to appreciate each other because we were always together (and I mean ALWAYS)! We went to a small highschool with about 30 kids in each graduating class. We shared the same friends and rode in the same car, attended the same games, and went to the same dances. I often complained at the time, about dragging my little sister with me. I never stopped to appreciate what a wonderful person she was. Even when I went to college, Sandra followed one year behind me (because she is such a smarty pants). We were never really apart and I never knew what life was like without her right there.
Now that we are both married, working and starting our own separate lives, I miss her dearly on a daily basis. We may still live in the same city, but life often pulls us apart for longer than we’re used to. Now that those younger years are long gone, I look back and wonder why I made such a big deal about such small things. She’s my sister and I would do anything for her. I know that now, but I wish I knew it then. And, I can’t say my mom never warned me.
So on today, her birthday, I want to post a picture I took of her, with her husband Andrew. I want to tell her I love her and appreciate her. She is a wonderful sister….and, isn’t she beautiful?
Happy Birthday, Sandra.
